Flickr 2.0?

Photo viewing/sharing site Flickr (by Yahoo) got a major update this week; changing and implementing several new features. They added a dark preview mode to dim everything from the background of a picture, as well as faster easier to use controls for photo navigation. According to the site’s blog, they’ve “made it easier to find when a photo was taken, it’s location, camera/exif info and your name in one location to the right of the image.” They have an expanded focus on the story, (who, what, where, etc) of your photos, in an effort to increase the social aspect behind image-sharing as well.

Social Media Explained: Flickr

In a nutshell
Flickr
gives people a simple way to manage and share their photos and video clips with family, friends and strangers (if you so choose) on the Internet. Since Flickr is owned by Yahoo, you can login to Flickr using a Yahoo email address and password and start uploading your pictures right away. Otherwise, registration is relatively straight forward Flickr offers a very thourough and intuitive Flickr help and support section.

Why is it useful?
Flickr has a wide range of features that appeal to businesses. Among these are the ability to tag and organize photos into a number of different sets and categories and control which users have access to what photos. Flickr also offers a number of ways to upload images to your space – from their web site, by downloading a special uploader to your desktop, or even by emailing them to an email address that is specific to your account. Another useful feature is the variety of widgets and plugins that allow users to embed slideshows or dynamically display thumbnails from your Flickr stream on your own web site. So that when you upload new photos to Flickr, they will automatically display on your site.
